History has a funny way of reminding us about relics, this time one of the OG’s of West Coast rap, Snoop Dogg has official purchased Death Row Records from MNRK Music Group for an undisclosed amount. When asked about his purchase Snoop said “I am thrilled and appreciative of the opportunity to acquire the iconic and culturally significant Death Row Records brand, which has immense untapped future value.” What is very wild is that Snoop plans to release his 19th studio album, “B.O.D.R.” or Bacc On Death Row which will be the first official release on Death Row Records in almost 15 years. One thing that drives my interest is who will be the first new artist to sign to Death Row; I hope Snoop takes this opportunity to rebuild the label into a home for rising stars from the underground instead of turning into a hype label with no substance.
