Jordan Peele dawns his writers cap along with Win Rosenfeld and Clive Barker for a remake of the 1992 cult classic horror film Candyman. Directed by Nia DaCosta, the film seems to have a different take on the character, having our main protagonists Anthony McCoy (played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) acquire a candy factory, possibly by the looks of it the same one that Tony Todd’s Candyman use to inhabit. Anthony is a artist and as we see throughout the trailer becomes enticed by the legend around Candyman, to the point where we get a glimpse at him and Tony Todd who is reprising the role reflecting in a mirror and appearing as one. Now the kicker is that Anthony McCoy’s character was established in the 1992 film, being the son of Anne-Marie McCoy who will also be in the film as she is credited to revitalize the role. Anthony and Candyman have a connection due to Candyman due to Anthony McCoy being kidnapped as a baby and rescued by Helen who died in the first film. All I know is I can’t wait for June which is when the film releases.
